- Born December 16, 1775 in Steventon, Hampshire.
- Father was a clergy man named George Austen.
- Mother was in a higher social class then her father her name was Cassandra Leigh Austen
- She had six brothers: James, George, Edward, Francis, and Charles
- George was born Handicaped and besause of the time period did not play a part in the family life
- She had one sister named Cassandra
- The children were mainly taught by the father although many of the boys went to oxford
- When Jane was little her family would read aloud and perform plays for the family
- Janes closest childhood Friends were Elizabeth, Catherine, and Althea Bigg
- The brother of these girls; Harris Bigg-Wither, later would proposed to her
- When Jane was ten she went to Abbey boarding school with her sister
- Her earliest writings were written in 1795 when Jane was only twenty years old
- Jane was never married although she came close
