Critique

Sense and sensibility overall was a boring book that was hard too read . I disliked all the old English words, they were very hard to understand even though it was just English. Also I disliked the way the characters acted. Nobody should be as mean as the men in this book; they lied, cheated, and manipulated the women to get what they wanted. Another thing I disliked was how Willoughby felt sorry for himself because he still loved Marianne and not his wife.
What I liked about the book was all the drama. All the lies and manipulation made this an interesting book to read. I also liked the way Jane Austen makes you believe John Willoughby is a nice man, and then rite when you think everything is good between him and Marianne he leaves her for somebody richer. I think every body ended up with the right people in the end; and I was happy that Marianne did not marry Willoughby. I like the way that she marries the man that has been in love with her since he first saw her.
There are some things I would have changed in Sense and Sensibility though. I would have made John Willoughby alone in the end; he should not have been able to marry some random rich lady. I also would have changed the way Edward made Elinor feel when she found out that he was engaged; I felt very bad for her. He should have told er once he realized his feelings for her hat he was engaged.
There are many ways people could relate to this story. Some people could relate to love problems or with problems in their family. I can relate to this because my sister is almost exactly like Marianne. She loves to have fun and is not a serious person. Also my sister has had her own form of a Mr. Willoughby. My sister was in love with this guy and she always talked about him or was with him; then one day she found out he was cheating on her. My sister tried to make it work but he was a coincided greedy boy. After she realized this she left him and has found her Colonel Brandon. So I know how Elinor feels when she has to see her sister totally heart broken.
I think that the message of this book could be do not judge a book buy its cover. Marianne did this and got her heart broken. People can benefit from this because it could help them realize some people are not what they seem to be. Willoughby seemed to be a kindhearted gentleman and turned out to be a loser. Also people can learn that money is not everything; and it does not buy happiness. Many people in the story thought money was everything until they lost what was rely important.
